Internet marketing is too broad a concept. It includes SEO, social media, e-mail marketing, pay per click and mobile web. This 2010, it is time to put a thought on your internet marketing strategies and reconstruct your internet marketing solutions.

First of all, email marketing is an integral part of internet marketing. It is not going to disappear in social media, and in fact, email marketing will keep on playing a important role internet marketing for the years to come. For this year, take email marketing to the next level by asking your email subscribers not only to read the contents of your email, but to get social with it by sharing this email through Facebook, Twitter, Digg and other social networking or bookmarking sites. You can also conduct a poll on Twitter or your Facebook account and encourage followers, friends, fans and readers to subscribe to your email newsletter.

Pay per click internet marketing has evolved over the years. Because of the convenience brought in by pay per click marketing, a lot ofcompanies have turn sluggish. The best thing to do would be to maximize conversion rates by testing out various versions of your pay per click ads and examining out the right landing pages. Most companies usually set their pay per click ads and then leave it and forget it for a long time, letting it generate for itself. They are normally busy with other internet marketing activities that they forget to screen and refine the campaigns. Pay per click marketing drives must always be set in order to attain your set goals in terms of conversion rates. How can you improve your PPC internet marketing? You can test multiple ad versions that highlight various benefits or your products and services. If you are aiming a competitive search term with many competitors, launch two different campaigns simultaneously as these will give distinct fulfillment.

Another form of internet marketing is search engine optimization (SEO). With search engine optimization you tune up your site such that it will become search engine friendly. Your goal here is to have your site listed on top-10 in the organic results of the search engines when users search for a particular keyword which matches to the product or service you are offering. SEO is also a continues process. You have to watch your results and keep improving your sites contents regularly if you want to get better results.

The above techniques are just some of the schemes you can embark on to improve your internet marketing schemes for 2010.

Plenty of Reasons Email is as Relevant as Ever

Every now and then, there is a discussion about where email stands as social network use becomes the "it" thing. We’ve all heard mutterings like, "email is dead" and "social media is killing email," but it’s just not the case, and there are plenty of reasons why (even if Google thinks it’s time to start over).

Do you think email is on the way out?
Share your thoughts.

Last year, we ran a piece titled 10 Reasons Social Media isnt’ Replacing Email that got a pretty good response from readers. In a nutshell (read the article for elaboration), these ten reasons were:

1. People still send hand-written letters
2. Nearly all sites on the web that require registration require an email address
3. Email notifies you of updates from all social networks
4. We haven’t seen any evidence yet that Google Wave really is the next big thing
5. Email is universal, and social networks are not
6. There are plenty of people who have no interest in joining social networks, but already use email
7. Email is still improving
8. Even social networks themselves recognize the importance of email
9. More social media use means more email use
10. As far as marketing is concerned, email is doing pretty well

At the Online Marketing Summit last week, there was an interesting session about email marketing, led by Joel Book, Director of eMarketing Education for email marketing firm ExactTarget. In that session among other points of discussion, he provided the following concept equations:

Email + CRM = lead nurturing
Email + CRM = Reseller education
Email + CRM = trade show follow up
Email + CRM = sales support for dealers
Email + analytics = Personalized recommendations
Email + analytics = live offers
Email + retail = product education
Email + retail = scannable coupons
Email + retail = subscriber acquisition
Email + social = driving demand
Email + social = using social forward to expand customer database
Email + sms = mobile immediacy
Email + SMS = lead generation
Email + sms = subscriber acquisition

Some things to think about.

Also at the Online Marketing Summit, WebProNews discussed the integration of social media with email, with Kara Trivunovic, Sr. Director of Strategic Services at StrongMail, who makes some great points.

acquired a popular one). Google recently released its own social media product, Buzz, which the company decided would fit best right in Gmail. Microsoft Outlook only recently started integrating social networks into the inbox (Mozilla has Raindrop to serve a similar purpose). The social networks themselves are creating email services (it didn’t take MySpace long to get a lot of users for theirs, and Facebook is said to be working on its own…and we know how popular Facebook is [it recently surpassed Yahoo as the number 2 site on the web]).

Tell us why you think email is here to stay or why you think it’s not.

Incorporating Social into Email Marketing

Email marketing is one of the oldest forms of marketing but is still very effective. Social media marketing is a relatively new form of marketing but is also very effective. What happens if the two are combined? According to Kara Trivunovic of StrongMail, email and social media provide many great advantages when they are put together.

When people integrate social into their email marketing programs, they have the opportunity to not only expand the reach of their existing offers, but also to encourage existing customers to evangelize on their behalf. As a result, companies could grow their database through acquisition, which is not usually common in email marketing.

As Trivunovic points out, there are three primary ways that people use to implement social into their email marketing efforts. They are:

1.    Sharing with your network
2.    Leveraging as a medium to incentivize current customer base
3.    Business model: acquiring customers through referrals

Trivunovic told WebProNews that approximately 86 percent of email subscribers share their email via email when they are asked to evangelize on the behalf of a company. Other social sharing methods include Facebook, Twitter, and blogging.

Incidentally, of that 86 percent that share via email, 19 percent of the receivers convert. That said, it seems safe to say that social media and email marketing work pretty well together.

Email Marketing Not Dead Yet

Because email marketing is one of the oldest forms of Internet marketing, many people think it is outdated and not useful. But according to blogging legend Darren Rowse of ProBlogger, it is anything but dead.

He began utilizing email newsletters since his parents wanted a way to get the latest content from his blog. Rowse originally thought that RSS would kill email marketing but now realizes that email is one of the most popular ways that people, both young and old, access information on the Web.

As a result of his email marketing efforts, two thirds of the people that subscribe to his blog now subscribe to his weekly newsletter as well. Only one third of the people that subscribe to his blog also subscribe to his RSS feeds. Consequently, email is now one of Rowse’s most effective forms of marketing.

On a side note, Rowse along with two other blogging rockstars Chris Brogan and Brian Clark, have joined together to create a philosophy known as the Third Tribe. Traditionally, bloggers have been linked into one of two groups. The first group does not like to sell or market at all. The second group, also called the Internet marketing crowd, markets continually.

Rowse, Brogan, and Clark are building a site to help people who want to find a balance between the two groups. WebProNews will keep you posted on the Third Tribe as more information becomes available.
