Putting a Dating Approach to Social Media

Social media marketing and its challenges is one of the most frequented topics among businesses. But would social media efforts be more effective if they were equated more closely to the dating process? According to Jennifer Evans Laycock, the Editor-in-Chief of Search Engine Guide, they would be.
Matt Bailey of SiteLogic originally coined the term “social media dating” but Laycock took the concept a little further. For instance, just like a person would not expect sex on a first date, a business should not expect a conversion the first time it interacts with a consumer.
As she explained to WebProNews, social media is about relationships, which includes both listening and gathering feedback. Laycock points out that just as a person strives to a better person during the dating process, a business should also work to become a better business through social media.
Viral campaigns are another area tied directly to social media and business. One common misconception of a viral campaign is that it must reach the masses. However, the key to viral marketing is getting your message to your specific target audience. If this happens, then you have successfully executed a viral campaign.
So, are you ready to put a “dating” spin on your social media efforts?
